Undone

I met "S" shortly upon my arrival. She was one of the most fragile and delicate human beings I have ever met. I don't know the true story behind her circumstances. I only know that her life was tragic and damaged her greatly. It was as though her entire life was portrayed through her eyes. I would like to say I saw her condition improve over the month we were in contact with one another but that is not the case. I began the portrait of "S" but soon discarded it even though I was repeatedly being asked about my progress. It simply wasn't working. A week or two later, I was flipping through my sketch book when I happened upon the start of her portrait. For some reason, I took hold of my eraser and began to erase parts of her and it all suddenly made sense. She was unravelling. She was undone. Unfortunately her condition continued to deteriorate. Nonetheless, she was given release papers and sent on her way. It broke my heart to see her escorted into a world she was not prepared to deal with. "S" is undoutedly one of the saddest beings I have run across and I fear she will forever remain "Undone".
