5150 is a California police code for a person who poses a danger to themself or others.
Loosely translated it means we have a nutcase. Regardless of the situation, that person is placed into a manditory 72 hour hold in a psychiatric hospital, evaluated and placed on medication by the in-house psychiatrist.
5150 is also the title of my latest series of pencil works which were inspired by this very unique experience. Afterall, what artist isn't a little bit tilted in the head? I say all of this without shame or embarrasment. I was watching the news in one of the recreation rooms one day. A man had abducted their two children and shot his wife in the head. The point being, those in a psychiatric hospital know they are there for a reason. It is the people who are free on the streets who don't realize they are nuts that you have to worry about.

The 5150 series is a collection of works I am very proud to present. They are psychological portraits of people I met during my "vacation at the funhouse" and people I was fortunate enough to meet and whom I still consider to be my friends.

The portraits that were created gave me the opportunity to visually create what they were unable to convey or explain to others. It gave them a visual aid to show others something they had no words for.
