Slave To The Dream

Acrylic on Canvas

30" X 40" 2000

Originally titled "Wishing Upon A Star", Slave To The Dream is the first of five new art works being specifically created for a Krayel erotica collection. What makes this series unique is that although the paintings are unquestionably based upon erotic content, the sexual acts are neither the subject matter nor primary focus of the collection.

Slave To The Dream is a symbolic laden and somewhat disturbing work which emphasizes the dark inner prison of human suffering, anguish, depression and the untold enslavement of its victims. The young man's personal desires have materialized in the shape of an ethereal leather master poised on the cusp between reality and illusion. Whether he is bound and seated at the edge of the canvas or kneeling in prayer, his obedient stance portrays the forcible manner in which he has mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually surrendered himself to the demands of his visionary savior and elusive captor.

The uncluttered window appears to be a passage through which his dream can enter but he can not exit. It is here that he must await his fate with his one and only remaining companion being the smoldering cigarette at his side. Obviously tormented and unable to cope with his own reality, the slave has tied a rope around his own neck in a a final act of desperation and free will.
